Place the braid on your altar as a reminder of peace, gratitude, and connection, or incorporate it into your personal cleansing practice. Its small size makes it an easy addition to a compact altar or a thoughtful gift for someone who enjoys aromatic ritual tools.
Sweetgrass traditions and symbolism
Sweetgrass (Hierochloe odorata) is a sacred plant used by many Indigenous peoples in North America in prayer, purification, and blessing traditions. It is sometimes referred to as the hair of Mother Earth. Teachings and uses vary among communities and should be approached with respect rather than treated as a single universal practice.
The braided form can offer a reminder of unity and strength: individual strands come together to create a harmonious whole. Some teachings associate the three sections with mind, body, and spirit, or with past, present, and future generations.
